Up this morning around 4:30 am -- that's the kind of thing that just happens when one goes to bed at 8:30 pm! But actually, we both got up around the same time, so it worked out all right! Plenty of sleep, and we were ready to say good bye to Anna, our amazing hostess, about 7:30 this morning!
The first part of our drive was actually all on highways, which were practically deserted; it was wonderful! Lovely rolling hills. We finally merged onto the freeway just west of Fort Stockton, but even there, the traffic wasn't bad at all, for which we were very thankful, although it was very flat! We stopped at a Carl's, Jr. for lunch at Fort Stockton, and made it all the way to Van Horn about 2:30 pm.

We had stayed at El Capital Hotel several years ago, on our drive back from our Belize cruise with Bob and Stew one December pre-Covid, and really enjoyed the hotel and the experience. Thought we would give it another try, and so glad we did! Our room wasn't quite ready when we got here -- we were about half-an-hour early, but we waited in their pleasant lobby, and soon it was ready. We're in room/suite 123, which is on the first floor -- but it's not on the ground level; it's elevated slightly, which is nice. There is a lovely sitting room, with a large balcony with lounge chairs, a large bathroom, and a nice bedroom.

Moved in and got settled. Able to watch the NFL for a bit before heading down to the dining room for dinner at 6 pm. R ordered a dinner salad with their raspberry-chipotle pork chop with mashed potatoes and green beans. I ordered their wedge salad to start, with their tempura shrimp with habaneros ... now those were H-O-T!! My nips are still lumb! We shared a piece of carrot cake for dessert.

Now back up on the room, I'm posted and then heading to bed, as we want to get an early start tomorrow!
