On to Texas!
Friday, September 20, 2024
Hello!
Up this morning about 5 am and down to breakfast at 6 am; out the door and ready to head to Horseshoe Bay, Texas by 6:30 am – but suddenly, there was a problem! The valet couldn’t deliver our car to us – because they didn’t have a valet in the morning who could drive a standard transmission! So, would we mind walking to the parking lot ourselves possibly? Had to laugh, as I had inquired when we pulled in “Do you know how to drive a standard transmission?” and was assured that they did … turns out, the valet service tries to always have someone who “knows how” on in the afternoon … but not in the morning! Oh well!
The drive to Horseshoe Bay ordinarily takes one through Dallas and Fort Worth – and about 6 hours, but we opted to avoid both Dallas and Forth Worth and go surface streets – much more enjoyable, although it did take us 7 hours.

Crossing the Red River into Texas!
Arrived at Anna’s a little before 2, and it was WONDERFUL to see her! Her new house is absolutely beautiful and is in a really lovely community!! Anna very thoughtfully brought out a wonderful charcuterie board – lots of good things, like prosciutto, cheese and olives, along with Mama’s Hummus, which was excellent! Gave us a great opportunity to catch up and munch at the same time!
In fact, we spent the remainder of the afternoon “catching up.” About 5-ish, Anna and I took a walk over to the community center to get her mail, and I was able to see some of the amenities in the area. Honestly, as she says, she is really living in a resort! That’s really true! Beautiful pool, clubhouse with great bar and kitchen, craft room (complete with kiln!) and huge exercise area with machines and weights. Also huge big-screen television, just in case you wanted to gather with friends, which apparently happens quite frequently here!

Anna made a great dinner – roast potatoes with asparagus and chicken cordon bleu, with vanilla cupcakes and ice cream for dessert. (I’m STUFFED at the moment!) Now blogging, and then probably to bed early, as we have a long day tomorrow. We’re going on a private photography tour of Natural Bridge Cavern, and then going to a winery in the afternoon! So excited about it all!
